Biography
Norwegian physiotherapist known for having developed "norsk psykomotorisk fysioterapi" ('Norwegian psychomotoric physiotherapy'), together with psychiatrist Trygve Braatøy, 1947-1953. She was one of the first to emphasise the importance of breathing for a successful treatment. She was interested in the body as a whole, and didn't like to think of the body and psyche as two separate parts.
In 1975 she was appointed Knight 1st Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, the first physiotherapist to get this award. In 2000 she was named physiotherapist of the century.
Bülow-Hansen died on 18 November 2001 in Oslo, Norway, at the age of 95.
