German surgeon and university lecturer; one of the outstanding surgeons of the 19th century, who developed surgical procedures, some of which still apply today.
In 1890 he became professor at the Albertus-University Königsberg, where he developed Braun's anastomosis, a still existing surgical small arm short-term in the gastric part resection. In 1893, he was the first to describe the treatment of a perforated gastric ulcer by suturing with the Omentum majus.
He died on 10 May 1911 in Göttingen, aged 65.
