Biography
Dutch writer, biographer and journalist.
He was the son of Hendrik van Booven sr. (29 June 1852, Giessen-Nieuwkerk - 21 March 1882, Diepenheim), a former secretary of of the consulate of the United States, and Adriana Johanna van Weel (23 August 1847, Dirksland - 3 April 1917, Hilversum). His father died young of tuberculosis. His sister Geertruida Adriana Johanna van Booven ((2 February 1879, Diepenheim - 17 July 1922, München) married on 23 October 1907 the art collector and spice trader Jacob Grelinger (23 November 1875, Amsterdam - 21 May 1964, Alicante).
On 17 May 1906 Van Booven married the Jewish damsel Selima Lopes Suasso (17 January 1885, Amsterdam - 4 Januari 1970, Kenmare), the last member of the noted Lopes Suasso family. Selima was a daugther of the esquire Emanuel Lopes Suasso (11 september 1853, Amsterdam - 30 September 1925, Chaource) and Anna Aletrino (10 July 1864, Amsterdam - 28 January 1945), a sister of the writer Arnold Aletrino (1 April 1858, Amsterdam – 17 January 1916, Montreux). Their daughter, Selima Eliseba van Booven (19 December 1907, Hilversum - 11 May 1985, Amsterdam) married Jacob de Vries jr.
He died on 31 January 1964 in The Hague at age 86.
