Biography
French criminal, a thief and hold-up gangster. He was known as "The Eel" as he was the king of escape and camouflage [disguise]. After being sentenced on 5/10/1971 to seven years in jail, he escaped.
On 2/07/1973, while trying to evade police arrest, he shot himself in the chest. Miraculously saved, he is sentenced on 6/17/1975 to 15 years in jail. Once more he escaped, 10/191975.
Arrested on 3/04/1976, he was in prison for two years before he managed to escape with Jacques Mesrine, 3/08/1978. Together the two hoodlums held up the Casino de Deauville.
Arrested in Belgium in March 1979, he escaped from the court house of Brussels on 7/26/1979.
Arrested in Spain on 1/20/1982, he escaped from the prison-van on 2/17/1983. He was believed to be dead, until a hold-up in Cognac on 11/22/1993.
On 5/01/1994, his companion, Marie-Ange Checa-Ernoso gave birth to a baby girl under an assumed name in Carcassonne, and fled the clinic.
Besse was arrested in Tangier on 11/23/1994 around 4 PM and sentenced to prison.
