Brazilian journalist and politician, who fought during the 1960s and 1970s as part of the 8th October Revolutionary Movement (Portuguese: Movimento Revolucionário 8 de Outubro), an urban guerrilla group. Along with the journalists Franklin Martins and Fernando Gabeira, among others, he participated in the kidnapping of the American ambassador, Charles Burke Elbrick, in 1969, motivated by the desire to release Vladimir Palmeira.
After being arrested, he was exiled and lived in Algeria and Sweden. Upon his return, he worked for the most important newspapers in the country, such as O Globo and Jornal do Brasil and received the Esso Journalism Prize, with four more colleagues, for a series of reports on the Araguaia Guerrilla. He was also an advisor to Federal Deputy Jandira Feghali.
In 2006, he ran unsuccessfully for the position of state deputy of Rio de Janeiro, representing the PSOL.
He is the brother of César Benjamin, also a former militant of the armed struggle.
