Biography
German narrative researcher and private scholar, whose 1952 book, Symbolik des Märchens (Symbolism of the fairy tale), interprets a variety of fairy tales, from Grimm's fairy tales to the fairy tales of world literature, comparing them with many parallel narratives and different beliefs. Psychological interpretations were contributed to the book by Marie-Louise von Franz and are based on the teachings of Carl Gustav Jung. The fairy tale characters are interpreted as archetypes and psychic functions.
Hedwig von Beit died in Intragna, Switzerland, on 16 October 1973, aged 77.
