American symphonic jazz composer and jazz pedagogue at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington. He has more than 65 recordings, 70 books, and 400 articles to his credit.
He died on 26 March 2016 at age 84 at his Bloomington, Indiana home.
