Biography
German physicist known for his investigations of light-electric effects and ferromagnetic materials.
Auwers was the son of the chemist Karl Friedrich von Auwers. He studied natural sciences at the universities in Heidelberg, Munich and Marburg. From 1924 he worked as a physicist in the laboratories of Siemens-Werke, where he worked as a researcher. In 1935 he was able to qualify as an "external" at the University of Berlin, where he was appointed as an extraordinary professor in 1943.
After the war, Auwers was called to Clausthal in 1946, where he taught for three more years. On 4 November 1949 he died aged 54.
