Biography
French army and air force officer and explorer.
In 1914 he joined the 10th regiment of the Hussars, then the Cavalry School of Saumur. He participated in the First Battle of the Marne, which earned him the Croix de Guerre, as a liaison non-commissioned officer fighting in the trenches of Arras, the Argonne and Verdun in 1916.
He obtained his pilot's license in Chartres in 1917 and during World War II he was a squadron leader.
A Camel Corps officer, he commanded the 1919 Sahara-Timbuktu mission before leaving the army and being recruited by André Citroën as Assistant to Georges-Marie Haardt for the first crossing of the Sahara by half-track (Touggourt-Timbuktu, from 17 December 1922 to 7 January 1923, then back). Alongside Haardt, he then participated in the Croisière noire (1924-1925) and the Croisière jaune (1931-1932).
He died on 12 February 1960 in Zarzis, Tunisia.
