Swiss painter, painted numerous murals in churches and in public buildings. In the year 1913 he became a teacher in the art academy in Stuttgart, and a few years later became the Director ( 1919-1921). He taught there above all, image structure and composition and stayed there until 1939, when he returned back to Zurich. The ruling national socialist party had called his work part of the so called degenerate arts. Some of Heinrich Altherrs murals can be seen in the University of Zurich and St. Paul's Church in Basel. His style is expressionist, and his themes are often politically or socially critically lined up. He died on 27 April 1947, Zurich, age 69.
