Biography
Princess of Prussia, who had Down syndrome, which the family handled with great self-assurance. Alexandrine grew up together with her siblings in Potsdam and Oels, and from 1932 to 1934 she attended the Trüpersche Sonderschule in Jena, the first educational institution in Europe dedicated to the scholastic and artistic education of children with cognitive and physical impairment.
Alexandrine, known in her family as "Adini", was the oldest daughter of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (1882-1951) and his wife Cecilie Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1886-1954), daughter of the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III and Princess Anastasia Mikhailovna Romanova. On her father's side, she was a granddaughter of the last German Emperor and King of Prussia, Wilhelm II. On her mother's side, she was a niece of the Danish Queen Alexandrine, also called "Adini".
She died on 2 October 1980 in Starnberg, aged 65.
