Biography
German actor, screenwriter, film director and film producer, who started out as a racing driver. He trained as a tenor and actor at the Rudi Meinhardt Theater. From 1931 he was active on Berlin stages as an actor under Heinz Hilpert. He soon found his way to film and appeared in several films with the young Heinz Rühmann.
Albin brought sporting events such as car racing to the cinemas. He received an award at the Biennale for a documentary film about the Herber / Baier ice skating couple. From the late 1930s, Albin acted as assistant director for feature films, including the 1938 Rühmann film Fünf Millionen suchen einen Erben. In 1941 he made a short film revue with sketches by Karl Valentin and Weiß Ferdl.
After the war, Albin lived in Munich. He directed several films in the 1950s and '60s, in which he often wrote the script and used his own production company, Hans Albin-Film. Most of his films were hearty comedies set in Upper Bavaria.
Hans Albin died on 5 September 1988 in Munich at age 83.
