Biography
French World War I veteran, who was the first member of the French Resistance to be shot by the Germans.
He participated in the severing of electric cables and telephone lines on 20 June 1940, thus facilitating the destruction of 18 Luftwaffe aircraft and the death of 22 German soldiers.
Achavanne was arrested three days later. Sentenced to death for sabotage by a German military court on 28 June, he was shot on 4 July 1940 near Rouen.
